Musically, Mayjahs? was influenced by a blend of New Wave, Hip Hop and Punk Rock. These genres combined with the most up front 4/4 driven records are what makes up the musical portion of a Lee Mayjahs? set. However, it was on a 1999 trip to the Nevada desert that Mayjahs? became enamored with the Burning Man scene and its bohemian culture. Mayjahs? witnessed unsupervised desert raves where the only thing that mattered was great music and freedom.

This was also a community of people that didn't fit the stereotypical clubbers that you'd find at hotspots around the world. There was no guestlist or bottle service. Hell, you couldn't even call these people hardcore dance music fans, per se. They were just music fans. This was a chance to be liberated and part of something special. Growing in numbers exponentially, there are now several huge Philadelphia Experiment parties occurring throughout the year. These events are infamous for marrying solid beat driven music with various performance artists and specially themed attractions. all starts back in the 1980's when the door for parties in Maryland (his home town) and Santa Fe, New Mexico (the location of his college).

After finishing his education commitments, Mayjahs? made his way back to the east coast and settled for a time in Philadelphia where he started workig at the legendary "Bank" nightclub (venue DJ greats King Britt, Josh Wink and Dozia got their start.) Throughout the early 90's Lee worked in various capacities at such venues as the Trocadero, Theater of the Living Arts, Mann Music Center, Tower Theater, Club Xero, Circa, Milk Bar, Revival, Space, Brazil's, Silk City and The Electric Factory. In 1995 Lee moved to California and lived in San Diego, San Francisco and Los Angeles until returning to Philly in 1999 (the same year he would attend Burning Man for the first time.) Lee Mayjahs? recently aligned himself with critically acclaimed eclectic electronic music label Playloop Records and released his debut self-produced EP, "French Connection" in 2010 on Ospina Digital Records. One can only imagine what the soundtrack to this artists exciting life will sound like! |
